The use of evidence by Brazilian nurses (2019)
O uso de evidências por enfermeiros brasileiros

Autores: Galvão, Maria Cristiane Barbosa; Carmona, Fabio; Fernandes, Vivian; Marques Ricarte, Ivan Luiz

Resumo: In the context of health, the term "evidence" is used to describe findings from scientific studies published in peer-reviewed academic journals. We sought to verify how Brazilian nurses have used evidence, as well as what are the main difficulties and facilitators for the use of scientific evidence by these professionals. For that, a cross-sectional survey was carried out. A total of 100 nurses participated, of which 7 were men and 93 were women, with an average age of 37.3 years; 81 had only undergraduate degrees, 14 had master's degrees and 5 had doctor’s degrees. Nurses in this study opt mainly for consulting their co-workers when they have some doubt. Main difficulties for the use of evidence by the participating nurses are related to low remuneration and conditions of the work place. They understand as facilitators for the use of evidence: multiple forms of access to evidence; access to evidence that is valid for local context; education during graduation and continuing education. This study results bring contributions in the direction to think about initiatives so that health evidences are more widely used by Brazilian nurses.

Geographic and disciplinary distribution of the Brazilian's PHD community (2019)

Autores: Digiampietri, Luciano A.; Mugnaini, Rogério; Trucolo, Caio; Delgado, Karina V.; Mena-Chalco, Jesus P.; Köhler, André Fontan

Resumo: The study of national academic characteristics is an imperative task for the understanding of national scientific production and the creation of effective science policy. Using a dataset of more than 3.2 million Brazilian curricula, we explore the academic community of PhDs working in Brazil in order to identify characteristics of the whole national network and in the knowledge area level. We used metrics from social network analysis and text mining techniques, as well as the patterns of collaboration between areas and the regional distribution of PhDs. The results show different general characteristics of the PhDs working in each Brazilian state and knowledge area, according to the social and economic characteristics of each of the five Brazilian regions. Different interaction profiles were described, like a less connected network in Linguistics, Letter, and Arts, in which each researcher is related, on average, to less than three other PhDs; on the opposite side, Agricultural Sciences each researcher is related, on average, to more than nine other PhDs of the network. It is clear that besides the capital and one or other major city, the Northeast Region is devoid of PhDs, a situation that is particularly problematic for the most destitute region of Brazil.

Interdisciplinary perspectives in subject analysis (2019)

Autores: Naves, Madalena Martins Lopes; Dias, Célia da Consolação

Resumo: In Information  Science context, Subject  Analysis is considered one of the most important stages in Indexing and the indexer is the responsible for this activity. An interdisciplinarity with Linguistics, Cognitive Science and Logics is observed during the development of this activity by the indexer. The study discusses factors of these areas that interfere in Subject Analysis. Linguistic factors act in concert with logical and cognitive factors in the intellectual activities that comprise Subject Analysis. So close is their interaction that it is not possible to determine where the influence of one begins or finishes. This reference base is required in order to understand what the text in question is about and in order to assimilate new knowledge. When analyzing a text, the indexer searches the reference base for stored information about the theme of the text and if found comprehension occurs; however, if not found, comprehension is thwarted

Displaced archives: a mapping review (2019)
Arquivos deslocados

Autores: Ascensão de Macedo, L. S.

Resumo: This article realises a mapping review on the topic “displaced archives”. The main problem is concerned to the absence of a clear conceptual framework about this topic, existing several terms related to the same phenomenon. The purpose of this paper is to explore the literature in terms of characteristics and size, identifying main concepts, theories, sources and knowledge gaps. Searches were performed in the Web of Science database. As inclusion criteria, we extracted terms from archival terminology in English and scientific articles published between 1953 and 2018 in peer reviewed journals. Methodologically, the article combines mapping review with a scoping review. Of the 160 articles, 70 were included, published between 1962 and 2018. Themes associated with decolonization and secession, armed conflict and illicit trafficking predominate, related to international and sub-national issues. Qualitative studies, especially historical analysis and case studies, prevail. New concepts such as colonial archives, seized archives and expatriate archives that are not considered in archival terminography are emerging. To conclude, the concept of "displaced archives" remains invisible to the archival community, especially the lusophone archival community, that no scientific production on the topic was retrieved.

Bibliographic data for linked data (2019)
Dados bibliográficos para o linked data

Autores: Jesus, Ananda Fernanda de; Castro, Fabiano Ferreira de

Resumo: Linked Data is a set of best practices designed to deal with data and information retrieval problems in the Web environment and can be applied to the bibliographic domain as a way to ensure that libraries share their data effectively. The objective is to analyze how the relationship between bibliographic data and Linked Data has been approached by Information Science professionals, based on the Systematic Review of Literature (RS). RS is a bibliographic review plus rigorous criteria that allow the results to be audited and the research to be continued from the point where it was interrupted. As a result, it was analyzed 56 articles in which it was observed that the main concerns in discussing the subject are: to submit projects for the adaptation of bibliographic data to Linked Data; discuss the process of converting bibliographic data to Linked Data; and conduct conceptual discussions about adequacy. It is concluded that, although the articles present many challenges, it is unanimous among the documents analyzed that adequacy would be advantageous for libraries.

Augmented reality and dissemination of information for children and teenagers (2018)

Autores: Galvão, Maria Cristiane Barbosa; Carmona, Fabio; Ricarte, Ivan Luiz Marques

Resumo: Economically affordable mobile devices and the growth of application stores have contributed to popularize augmented reality. This work evaluated to evaluate the public perception about the use of augmented reality for the dissemination of information. Informational objects in augmented reality, with focus on children and teenagers up to 18 years old, were developed and distributed in 48 localities of the outpatient clinic of a pediatric hospital. These informational objects were presented to 334 participants and their companions, who could evaluate them by using a satisfaction scale from 0 to 10 and a qualitative question. The average score attributed by the participants’ companions to the augmented reality was 8.2, with no significant differences by age or sex. In the qualitative analysis, five frequent themes were identified in 150 comments issued by the companions on augmented reality, which are: it is a new and interesting technology; it suits the child’s world; it is a form of fun; it transforms the hospital environment; and it requires other technological resources. In the process of data convergence, it was observed that, from the 150 comments, 133 (89%) were positive and 17 (11%) were negative. It has been concluded that augmented reality can help the process of information dissemination.

Classifying the LOD cloud (2018)

Autores: Martínez Ávila, Daniel; Smiraglia, Richard P.; Szostak, Rick; Scharnhorst, Andrea; Beek, Wouter; Siebes, Ronald; Ridenour, Laura; Schlais, Vanessa

Resumo: Massive amounts of data from different contexts and producers are collected and connected relying often solely on statistical techniques. Problems to the acclaimed value of data lie in the precise definition of data and associated contexts as well as the problem that data are not always published in meaningful and open ways. The Linked Data paradigm offers a solution to the limitations of simple keywords by having unique, resolvable and shared identifiers instead of strings This paper reports on a three-year research project “Digging Into the Knowledge Graph,” funded as part of the 2016 Round Four Digging Into Data Challenge (https://diggingintodata.org/awards/2016/project/digging-knowledge-graph). Our project involves comparing terminology employed within the LOD cloud with terminology employed within two general but different KOSs – Universal Decimal Classification and Basic Concepts Classification. We are exploring whether these classifications can encourage greater consistency in LOD terminology and linking the largely distinct scholarly literatures that address LOD and KOSs. Our project is an attempt to connect the Linked Open Data community, which has tended to be centered in computer science, and the KO community, with members from linguistics, metaphysics, library and information science. We focus on the shared challenges related to Big Data between both communities.

Autores: Hott, Daniela Francescutti Martins; Rodrigues, Georgete Medleg; Oliveira, Laís Pereira de

Resumo: The democratization of access to digital data in various formats that circulate on the Internet, that is, Big Data has been a recurring theme on the world stage. In this context, discussions on accessibility for people with disabilities seem to be central and coherent with issues of access to digital information. The present study seeks to identify the regulatory frameworks for inclusion and access and accessibility restrictions in web environments for people with disabilities. The methodology used is of a qualitative nature, being the exploratory research, since it started from the studies of Information Science, Information Professional, Accessibility and the Law of Access to Information and Big Data, to establish a link between such concepts. As a result, it presents and describes the performance of the information professional in all phases of configuring a site accessible to people with disabilities. It concludes that informational accessibility in web environments depends on the mobilization around the issue of universality and equal rights guaranteed in legal apparatuses, as well as training and preparation to deal with a subject as essential as informational accessibility.

The objective of the present article was to discuss, by way of a systematic review, the contribution of knowledge management to the creation of an organizational innovation model in sports management. Regarding the ends, this work presents itself as descriptive, showing the proposed characteristics of an organizational model; and also exploratory, as it deals with a subject that still isn’t researched very much in the academic environment. As for the means, this work can be classified as bibliographic, as it uses information from the scientific articles that were found. A systematic review was conducted in the Periodical Portal, which is managed by the Higher Level Personnel Improvement Coordination -- CAPES, with research conducted between the years 2010 and 2016. In all, 2629 articles were found, of which 2069 were peer-reviewed. Duplicate articles were removed from this total, as well as articles that were published outside of the timeline that was considered (2010 - 2016). From this amount, we selected those that contained the descriptors, found in the titles of the articles and their abstracts, resulting in a total of 137 articles. Seeking to further explore the subject through the proposed objective, the articles that contained information on the sports segment were eliminated. Thus, 124 articles were excluded from the group as they were not in accordance with the inclusion criteria, leading to a total of 13 articles being included in the systematic review. To these articles, we added seven more, as they were greatly relevant and could contribute to the research. We concluded that the contribution of knowledge management is becoming a reality, meeting the new perspectives of sport in Brazil through the flow of knowledge.

The interlacement of memory and information in the scope of the reference process (2020)

Resumo: The purpose of this paper is to reflect on the reference process, in which it is understood that the particularities of memory and information are present throughout the process, as points that intertwine and influence before, during or even after service. be finalized. It is understood that it is through the process of reference that one has the unique moment of interpersonal communication between the user and the librarian. Based on this relationship between the actors, the methodology to be applied is the analysis of the steps in the reference process in the light of Denis Grogan, combined with the reflection on the conceptual implications of memory and information. In addition, it is basilar the relationship of the concept of communicative action and dialogic process to reflect on the qualification of interpersonal communication among the actors, besides promoting a state of informational consciousness. The proposed reflections are promising regarding the revision of the reference service, the innovation of the concept of interpersonal communication itself and the integration of the actors involved in the reference process with the library.

Copyright, plagiarism and co-authorship (2020)
Direito autoral, plágio e coautoria

Autores: Satur, Roberto Vilmar; Dias, Guilherme Ataide; Silva, Armando Manuel Barreiros Malheiro da

Resumo: Copyright, plagiarism and co-authorship are themes that arouse controversy in the academic world, especially under ethical and legal parameters.  The general objective of this research is to understand, from the perspective of copyright, non-plagiarism and co-authorship, how the use of information and its belonging to others can be made without having an unethical or anti-legal attitude, as well as demystifying self plagiarism. To that end, the research question was: “From the perspective of copyright, non-plagiarism and co-authorship, how can the use of information of his or her own and of others be used without having an unethical or anti-legal attitude?” The methodology used was bibliographic and reflection research, using qualitative arguments. As result, there is an important debate involving two problematic sides of the “same coin”. On one side, are those who produce more works, with their researches and writings, the publishers, periodicals, courses and regulatory agencies; And on the other side are those who are asked (required) to produce in quantity and quality and do not fit well to this requirement, for not having that profile, and that often resort to “sellers of academic works”, by copying parts or the work of others or repeating their work already done as something new. It is known that to meet the academic demands of production, many people use unethical subterfuges to achieve their goals, and others take advantage, creating a lucrative business. The regulatory and supervisory bodies attempt to act and inhibit such practice, such as the creation of the Copyright Law, plagiarism detection software and others. However, this practice is far from being completely eliminated. This article will discuss the unfolding of issues of copyright, plagiarism and co-authorship, instigating the academy itself to reflect not only on the students’ attitudes, but also on teachers and researchers. We conclude that not everything that seems to be a crime is so and it is necessary to review practices and requirements that try to make the researcher a producer in series of publications without relativizing the condemnation of the unethical practice of false authorship

Protocol data management in biology laboratories (2020)

Resumo: Organizing information objective is to disseminate the information objects effectively to the users. It is a complex but important task that uses elements such as the form and informational content of documents. Organized information is a prerequisite for an efficient organization. The goal of this study is to discuss the proposal of developing a system to organize protocol information from biological laboratories capable of managing protocol data. Research laboratories are examples of organizations that have a diverse and complex set of data that must be well organized. Their flow of information needs to be mapped identifying people, information sources, technology used as well as products and services. In this paper we describe the development of the FluxP system to organize information on protocols from a Biology Research Laboratory — The Animal Venoms and Toxins Laboratory (LVTA) from Federal University of Minas Gerais – Brazil. The following methodological procedures were adopted: technical visits, construction of a tool to manage the protocols (FluxP forms), categorization of the protocols used in the LVTA and experimental tests with 3 LVTA researchers. As a result, we highlight some features like: FluxP is able to manage protocol data making it simple to store and retrieve protocols to aid in the experimental work, increasing the reliability of experiments and helping reduce experimental errors.  By establishing a central repository for protocols FluxP prevents protocols from being misplaced or lost and by categorizing them it makes simple to retrieve protocols based on keywords.  The system is currently being used by LVTA to manage a collection of 50 protocols, and can be easily adapted for other laboratories.

Alternative and traditional indicators of the Brazilian Feminist Studies Journal (2020)

Autores: Fachin, Juliana; Araújo, Ronaldo Ferreira; Blattmann, Ursula

Resumo: The connection of traditional and alternative indicators of academic impact has been recommended by scholars in the field of metric studies as they are considered complementary and offer a more complete picture of the evaluation of research results. From this perspective, the present descriptive exploratory study aimed to analyze the correlation coefficient between the traditional and alternative impact of Revista Estudos Feministas. The sample comprised the period from 2001 to 2018. Analysis data were obtained from the Dimensions database via API. 1,296 texts with 2,609 citations and 5,982 altmetric data were analyzed. The results showed that Mendeley obtained a positive evaluation in the correlation of Pearson's coefficient when compared with the quantity of published articles and with the citation and visibility indicators. The study found that altmetric data is 4.6 times larger than traditional data, although fluctuating it is important for indicating the tools and networks where readers and users share scientific content.

The use of econometric models in studies of Eletricity Generation from biomass (2020)

Autores: Martins, Luís Oscar Silva; Carneiro, Roberto Antônio Fortuna; Fernandes, Fábio Matos; Silva, Marcelo Santana; Freires, Francisco Gaudêncio Mendonça; Torres, Ednildo Andrade

Resumo: The present research investigated the utilization of econometric models in studies related to the generation of electricity from biomass, through a bibliometric analysis. The general objective of the study was to analyze the publications, from 1987 to 2018, that explored the potential of econometric models involving biomass for electricity generation. Additionally, it was intended to investigate the most cited articles and authors, seeking to verify the most relevant themes and the main econometric techniques used in the analyses; verify the countries most engaged in these researches, drawing a parallel with their current energy strategies; identify future trends of studies in this area. For this, the SCOPUS database was used, selecting articles in English, from the keywords “Econometrics, biomass and Electricity”. The data collected with the literature review were compiled on thematic maps, with the help of the Vosviewer software, which realized analysis of citation, co-citation, co-authorship and keywords. SciMat software was also used, which generated from key terms, longitudinal strategic maps that allowed identifying future trends on the theme discussed in this article. The results indicated that the main research fronts in this field, are related to the use of econometrics to estimate the impacts of energy generation from biomass in variables such as economic growth, energy demand and greenhouse gas emissions.

Brazilian open access journals in DOAJ (2020)
Revistas científicas em acesso aberto brasileiras no DOAJ

Autores: Pereira, Vinicius; Furnival, Ariadne Chloe

Resumo: A variety of business models can be observed among open access journals. The purpose of this research was to map the business models of Brazilian open access journals registered in the Directory of Open Access Journals (DOAJ), in order to assess their financial sustainability. The research method utilized was bibliographic and document research focusing on existing and possible business models for open access journals. The data was classified by research area. The analysis was made based on the current context of scientific research in Brazil, the literature and information obtained directly from the journals. The results show the prevalence of three business models, related to the article processing charges (APC). Only a small number of journals use these charges. Concerning the APC, there was a large variability between the values, indicating that there is no clear consensus about the ideal value. We conclude that the predominance of external funding demonstrates the economical vulnerability of the journals. The mixed business model, using financing and APC, appears as a viable model, but only as a temporary solution, exposing the need for a deeper discussion of the business models adopted by Brazilian open access journals.

Social epistemology in information studies (2020)

Autores: Martínez-Ávila, Daniel; Zandonade, Tarcísio

Resumo: The present paper aims to provide new details and information on the intellectual context in which social epistemology was born, including aspects such as its theoretical influences, intellectual contexts, and main characteristics. As methodology it presents an analysis of the writings on social epistemology by Jesse Shera and Margaret Egan selected from different and sometimes rare sources and collection. After an the analysis, the paper addresses the relationship between the historical social epistemology proposed by Margaret Egan and Jesse Shera as a discipline to investigate the foundations of librarianship and the contemporary social epistemology proposed by Steve Fuller as a program of a “naturalistic approach to the normative questions surrounding the organization of knowledge processes and products.” Both these proposals are outlined as an interdisciplinary project that is based on both philosophical epistemology and the scientific sociology of knowledge.
